Neon Dynasty Campaign

Overview

This was Magic‘s return to Kamigawa, 2000 years after the original block. This is the most futuristic, sci-fi and cyberpunk Magic had ever looked. Kamigawa’s traditional Japanese-inspired world was being displayed through a very updated technological and bright lens for the first time.

I commissioned these pieces as marketing art to be released during different campaign beats, accompanied by relevant product shots and messaging, across social, paid media and web assets.

This time my artist selections came from the best Magic card art illustrators.

Teaser 1

Our first teaser was meant to be the first introduction to this new updated world of Kamigawa. It featured the five Dragon Spirits entwined high above Kamigawa. As with all these pieces, neon was supposed to be a prevalent mood in the color palette, with an infusion of magical energy.

Teaser 2

As our second teaser, we wanted to start showing off one of our more mysterious characters from the set, The Wanderer, with their signature hidden face.

As we got deeper into the campaign, we brought out a piece of art I commissioned from one of the most famous Magic artists of all time: Raymond Swanland. He brought The Wanderer and her Kyodai to life with so much implied motion. It was meant to evoke a feeling of welcoming danger readily.

To wrap up this campaign’s art, and keep the exciting momentum going, I worked with Lie Setiawan once more. He showed us Kaito confidently escaping an unpredictable event. The setting displays a merge occurring in a city backdrop, as it is obliterating a large Imperial Court Mech.
