Crimson Vow Campaign

Overview

This was Magic‘s third return to Innistrad. The story was divided in two parts. Our second part focused on the vampire Olivia Voldaren tricking Edgar Markov into a sudden wedding.

I commissioned these pieces as marketing art to be released during different campaign beats, accompanied by relevant product shots and messaging, across social, paid media and web assets.

The tonal focus for all these commissions was gothic horror visuals, and the opulence of how good it is to be bad.

Our first piece for this set showcases Olivia as she is risen from her sleep, getting ready for her big day. Justyna Gil gave us a very dreamy and refined artwork that was the perfect tone for Crimson Vow. Our animator took advantage of all the opportunities for a subtle and classy execution on his part.

Bastien Deharme is synonymous with gothic art. He was a clear choice to pursue for this set. Specially for such an aethereal concept. This was a case of knowing who I wanted to do the art and having that knowledge influence the perfect image. I wanted him to show us Olivia inside her coffin before her wedding. He did not disappoint. He gave us gothic horror and beauty in an unsettling fantasy.

This bridal portrait, created by Martina Fackova, displays our groom looking confused, as Olivia is eager to become an even more powerful vampire. Her bold intentions starting to show more clearly. BTW… the souls clinging to her… that’s her wedding veil.

For our last marketing beat, we wanted to amp up the action and debauchery. Olivia sits on her throne, enjoying the festivities. Her guests making spectacles of themselves for her entertainment.
